Is it Possible to make an impy stout using a kit

So, the brew has gone nicely but seems to have stalled. Started out at 1.076 and chugged along nicely until 1.032, at which point I added the coopers yeast to give it a kick start. It has now gotten down to 1.022, where it has now remained static for 3 days. It’s been at a constant 22 degrees...

Is it Possible to make an impy stout using a kit

For me, personally, I’m aiming for an Imperial stout (as per the title of this thread). I’m hoping the 2 kits used will give plenty of flavour and body, but no, this won’t be a session drink by any stretch of the imagination 😊

Is it Possible to make an impy stout using a kit

Currently brewing a dual kit of Youngs American Mocha Porter and a Coopers stout. Added a further 1/2 Kg of dark brown sugar and 2 generous spoon fulls of fine ground coffee powder. Only went to 20 litres and it started out at 1.076, so if I can get it sub 1.010 should be around 9% took a...

Is it Possible to make an impy stout using a kit

I’m about to try out a Youngs American Mocha Porter coupled with a Cooper’s Stout kit combined, possibly with some additional sugar. Fingers crossed

Do imperial stouts always ferment like crazy?

Thank you, does that still apply given the responses on here about nuclear level blow offs? Just want to minimise the risk of a gargantuan error

Do imperial stouts always ferment like crazy?

Further to my previous post about combining a Youngs AM Porter and a Coopers Stout kit, I take it I should only use one of the yeasts to get this going? That was always the plan, but reading some of the comments here I think it’s a must to start it off slowly

Do imperial stouts always ferment like crazy?

Forgot to add, I do have a ‘bigger jugs’ FV, to allow for extra headroom

Do imperial stouts always ferment like crazy?

I’m planning to have a go by combining a Youngs American Mocha Porter with a Coopers Stout, so doubling up the malt extract and some additional sugar and a a little espresso for flavour Anyone got any thoughts as to whether this is likely to go nuclear? Anyone got any thoughts as to whether it...

    What did you brew today?

So, now brewing the Young’s American IPA kit, but with a little additional light brown sugar, which raised the OG to 1.062. If I can get it down to 1.008 that’ll be around 7% before carbonating. I’ve also purchased an additional 100g of Chinook to add to the supplied 100g of hops for dry...

    What did you brew today?

It’s a kit mate, I haven’t progressed to anything more advanced than that. the original kit predicts about 4.5%, so the slightly short brewing and additional black treacle is what is making up the extra alcohol and, hopefully, flavour. most already coming on a treat, dropped from 1.064 to...

    What did you brew today?

Yesterday I set off the St Peters Cream Stout, but with an additional can of black treacle. OG was 1.064, so aiming for about 7.7%

    What did you brew today?

I currently have a Young’s American Oaked Rum Ale on the go, done it before and turned out ok. Bottled up the Bulldog Evil Dog double IPA a couple of weeks ago. Have a Young’s American IPA waiting to go up next. Then going to try out the St Peter’s cream stout as described above

    What did you brew today?

Really interested as to how this turned out. Thinking of short brewing this kit myself, with some additional black treacle to get a more punchy stout!

    St Peter's Cream Stout

Another question to add on this: Has anyone tried short brewing this to get a more punchy stout, if so how did it turn out? I’m thinking of pitching it for just 25-30 pints rather than 36, and maybe adding a little black treacle. Thoughts?
