    No rinse sterilizers: issues?

My LBS told me today that none of the three wholesalers they deal with will stock these products "due to concerns" Any idea what the issues might be? PH

    Another IPA problem

The makers have seen a sample and think it may well be okay, and into the bargain due to the LBS saying we are a good customer we have a new kit too. Well done to Youngs. PH

    Recommend me a book please

Am reading Brewing Classic Styles by Zainasheff and Palmer and How to brew by Palmer. Interesting to say the least. PH

    National Brewery Centre

Went today, had lunch (awesomely excellent and great value for money) took the tour and talk about interesting. Thoroughly good value and a huge amount of information to digest. The famous water does not come from the Trent river but from a special layer sourced from wells. Now who worked...

    Mead/bee-related

Nice to see some other bee folks on here. If you read Bee Craft than you may know my nick...LOL My breeder hive has produced just over 200 lbs of comb honey from the limes. :) Attending a Bee Farmers meet I had a chat with a retired BF who had also made mead commercially. I had a prob at the...

    King Keg tap leak

The issue was not with the seal it was with the working parts of the actual tap. I took it back and the owner of the shop said there were known issues with it. She gave me a different type and it is holding as it should. The moral of the tale is it pays to check the kit before putting it...

    King Keg tap leak

There is no "O" ring in the tap, or am I being ignorant? I greased the cap with vassie yes. BTW I am ex oil and on rigs high pressure valves are greased as a matter of routine. amazing really what pressure a slap of grease will manage, 2 or 3 psi, thousand that is. ;) PH

    King Keg tap leak

Bought this last week and filled it tonight with water and gassed it to pressure test it. So the tap is leaking, not a lot just a drop every few minutes but it shouldn't should it? If it were "product" then nasties could in theory get in. I intend taking it back for a change out. PH

    Another IPA problem

Certainly possible if to our thoughts unlikely as all was sterilised. However never say never. We are giving it another two weeks as it is possible the 2nd fermentation is still ongoing. After that the drain beckons. PH

    Another IPA problem

As far as I can tell the keg is sealed tight. No priming sugar with the kit as I recall, I used my own brewing sugar to prime it. Looks bad smells bad tastes bad, so far a total waste of money. PH

    Another IPA problem

I brewed the kit as per instructions and put in the recommended sugar to achieve the 2nd fermentation. A month later the beer is both flat and frankly pretty horrid, a very yeasty smell, and very cloudy. It is in my cellar at some 15C. I am seriously thinking of binning it and moving on...

    Powerful red

Hmm thanks for that as we are already using the Beaverdale kits and finding them pretty good. Expense is not really the issue, more a search for quality. PH

    Powerful red

;Hi, Been trawling through the recipes and done a search but cannot find anything for a really powerful red wine. If anyone can suggest a way of producing one even if it means modding a kit then please let me know. PH

    Looking for help, mead recipes?

Mead is a creature with it's own mind. You can make two batches the same day and they will be quite different creatures. The simple recipe is to sterilise everything thoroughly. Using four pounds to a gallon bring to a simmer and skim. Cool and add to vessel. Lots of nutrient, a high alcohol...

    Hello to the group

My primary interest is mead as I produce honey in polystyrene hives, the better way to house bees. I run a bee information website to assist as many as I can in that hobby. I made wine and beer many years ago and have returned to the craft and am finding it much easier that it was due to the...
