If there is one thing ive learned since ive been posting here its to have patience! :D The fact that you are getting some airlock activity is a good sign. Ive heard a few people saying its going like the clappers but ive also heard plenty saying that it takes a while to get going. Sit tight...

Ah, i see. I would make that 1064. According to the calculator on this site (top left of the title banner) , if your brew comes down to 1000 it would be 8.5%

Normally, (well, the limited amount of hydrometers ive seen!) each line is two, i would make that at 1056?

Hi Lancslad, Thats what ive been doing Hydrometer wise. I asked exactly the same question as you have and it seems that is correct...well, i havent been told otherwise! :thumb: With my vimto i took a reading at the beginning (1st Oct) and another 1 1/2 weeks later. The reason that you take...

Ive got them in my conservatory at the mo and its definately colder out there. :hmm: Should i warm them up a bit and see what happens? Would racking to a different vessel do the trick? How are your ones getting on?

Mmm...i may have a problem, maybe someone could help. :wha: Tropic Thunder and Pineapple Delight are slowing down but still have a head on them.I started them on 1st October so i would have expected that to be gone by now. Both taste fine so i have given thenm both a shake to see what happens...

Update, Just taken a reading and the Pineapple delight is down to 994 from and 1058 and the tropic thunder is down to 992 from 1054  Both still have a head on and are still quite sweet. Using the calculator they will be 8.5% and 8.2% respectively, but i still think it has more to go...

    Marrsy's Brewery Recipes [Updated 18/11/13]

Hi Marrsy, You may recall our discussion last week re me starting my two vimto efforts (Pineapple and Tropical juice). They have been bubbling away merrily and seem to be doing great. :thumb: I have however just read your recipe (Great for us newbies!) and it includes tea. I understand this...

    Cider kit sweetening

Hi Waterboy, I didnt sweeten by the litre i did it by the bottle. But in hindsight i think the best way might be to back sweeten the whole batch and then bottle. I had another three bottles tonight and added 1 1/2 tsp per pint and it was drinkable! :thumb:

    Cider kit sweetening

Update: Had my first taster of the pear cider yesterday. It was certainly better than before but still not sweet enough. I added a spoon of splenda to make it more drinkable! :) If i do this kit again i'll back sweeten more!

All systems go today. The pineapple is getting a pop every 5 seconds and the tropic thunder is popping every 30 seconds. :thumb: Also picked some more sloes today from the bottom of the garden. Now in the freezer until i decide what to do with them!

I'd be happy with 8%!! :thumb: I took the readings before pitching the yeast, was that correct? Yours looks a lot clearer than mine :wha: I have some sediment on the bottom of the pineapple one but the yeasties are starting to rise to the top so i'll keep everything crossed  I'm...

Right then, Started two batches today. One with Pineapple and Vimto (1.058) and Tropical fruit (1.054). I took these measurements prior to pitching the yeast, is this correct? :wha: I used Super wine yeast so we'll see how it goes! Some bubbling action already after 2 hours so looks...

I'll drink to that! I've been looking at the WoW thread as well. I thought when i started (you've obviously guessed im a newbie!) that i would do beers, cider etc until i get used to the process of brewing and fermentation and then start on the wine, which i gather takes more time...
