    Adding sugar

Hi, When I started out on my first brew I used some of the how to guides on this site. This one has a good blend of instructions and insight: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=24822 Do find it strange that the companies making these kits are willing to sacrifice the quality of the end product in favour of...

Coopers Kit & Goldings, Amarillo and Fuggles - what to try?

I thought I was a rebel using the brew enhancer 2 but that's just madness! :nono:

Coopers Kit & Goldings, Amarillo and Fuggles - what to try?

Hi Kev, That's what I've read from doing a google search as follows: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=re-us ... +bittering ...but I'm far from an authority in this! May only be a few £s but I'm all for getting the most out of ingredients and equipment. Thanks, Thomas

Coopers Kit & Goldings, Amarillo and Fuggles - what to try?

I've been spending a lot of time looking into dry hoping and hop teas etc and the one thing I didn't realise was that these two methods wouldn't add any additional bitterness. I'm now slightly regretting using this kit, but only a little. I've also read somewhere that I can re-use the hops as...

Coopers Kit & Goldings, Amarillo and Fuggles - what to try?

Bump! Not found anything myself although individually the hops seem fairly common.

    Best kit to experiment with?

I've just kicked off my 4th kit (Geordie winter warmer) after 3 fairly successful kits. I'm now getting the itch to start experimenting a bit. For the next kit I'm starting to think about adding treacle or dry hops etc. What are good kits to start experimenting with? I guess it depends on what...

Anybody use soda chargers in a keg?

OK thanks guys... I guess these things are all similar really but walk past a wilkos every day. Budgets are limited due to impending second born so not sure whether to go down the bottle only route for now to save from the costs of CO2? How long would a pack of 10 normally last? (Also thinking...

First Kit - No Head Retention / Carbonation after 3 weeks

Not yet! Didn't think to buy anything for injecting CO2 when I got all the gear as I thought at the time priming would be enough. Bit of an open ended question but how many co2 bulbs etc would it take to keep a keg carbonated until empty? Does is depend on how quickly you drink it :D or is...

First Kit - No Head Retention / Carbonation after 3 weeks

OK thanks for that, i'll give that a try. It only says to leave for 4 days and then leave in the cold for 3-4 weeks. Main lesson so far is to increase times on just about everything! Thanks for the help and i'll report back in a couple of weeks

Sorry should have included that info! Added 60g of table sugar into the pressure barrel just before transfer as per instructions. It's a youngs barrel from tesco. Cheers

First Kit - No Head Retention / Carbonation after 3 weeks

I'm in the process of doing my first kit - a John Bull IPA - but it's lacking any decent head retention / carbonation and is cloudy. Being my first brew i've probably messed around with it too much in the fermentation stage - had the lid of a few too many times etc. Here is a run down of what...

    Hello!

Hi, New to brewing, but not to drinking :) I've currently got a John Bull IPA in the keg and a basic lager I got with the Young's starter kit in the FV. Enjoying the whole brewing thing so far and intrigued to know how these two brews end up. Having had a taste of the IPA after about a week...
