    Chilli Wine

Any reason not to chop a chilli and shove it into a WOW? I am currently growing jalapinos, cayennes and habaneros. God only knows what I am going to do with the latter. The first two are ripe and ready.

    Best Turbo Cider to date

I'm gonna have a go at this I think. I'm not really a cider drinker (at the mo) but by the sounds of things this might convert me. What do people normally bottle into? Grolsch type flip tops, used 500mls PETs from other fizzy drinks, or something else? Also, I couldn't find crystallised...

    Variations of WOW!

From what I have previously been told 'a juice drink' is also fine. The example that was given was Cranberry.

    Variations of WOW!

Thanks for the reassurance Moley. I did mean to add: 3) I don't take hydrometer readings, probably due to both the hassel, and the risk of adding infection. I add 900g of sugar per gallon and ferment till it completely stops. The last ones took 3 weeks. At this early stage I'm not really...

    Variations of WOW!

Right! 5 gallons of WOW are now on the go, and I have racked both the 1G of WOW and the 1G of passionfruit WOW. I hame made a couple of (possible) shortcuts and I was wondering if any of my actions could cause a problem. 1) I shoved all the ingredients in then stirred for a few minutes, and...

    Variations of WOW!

Thanks for the advice Mr Everready. I will put 5 gallons on tomorrow. I am very excided

    Variations of WOW!

I have just tasted my first batch of WOW and... OMG it tastes really nice. I am absolutely amazed! AMAZED!! :D Right! I need to make more of this stuff. To make it in 5 gallon batches do I simply multiply by 5, or something a little different? Also, to make a Rose version I have tried...

    Chilli wine

Capsaicin as far as I'm aware is a protein and is oil soluble, rather than oil based. There must be loads of oil soluble protiens in the fruit that we ferment. What happent to all that oil? Does it float to the top of the wine? I don't think so. You have raised a very interesting point. Any...

    Variations of WOW!

Aaaaah! WOW not stable... I'm pretty sure I followed all the instructions properly up to this point. Thanks.

    Variations of WOW!

Right, two things regarding my first batch of WOW: Firstly, it is still cloudy. I think I may have read that some juices just never clear. If so, is a combination of Princes Orange Juice an Tesco Pure White Grape Juice one of these. Secondy, after adding Kwikcle the bung keeps popping out...

    Weak wine

I would check your hydrometer, first in water at the correct temperature, and then in a measured dilution of sugar. Why don't you make a batch of WOW following Moley's recipe. By doing this you can be fairly confident that you have a liquid at a calculatable SG. COI: I just completed...

    Elderflower near Farnborough?

Oh well, maybe next year then... Although, I'm going 'oooooop Norf' in one month. If I get some peeps to pick it, does it store ok, and how much do I need for a reasonable batch of Elderflower nectar? Thanks guys

Hi all, I'm looking for some elderflower near to Farnborough. Is there an internet site with info on where to find the stuff, or does anyone know? Thank you.

    Variations of WOW!

Actually, it's starting to grow on me, but it has a rather unusual smell. I'm trying to place it... It's a slightly sichy fruity smell. Tastes ok though. I can't wait to start tucking into the WOW. Pectolase in and working overtime. Thanks for the help Moley. You're a star.

    Variations of WOW!

Thanks Moley! Yeah, the pectolase does say 2 teaspoons per 4.5ltr, and contains both pectin enzyme and glucose. Why would it contain glucose? Seems to me like they have diluted by half the quantity of pectin enzyme. Presumably the enzyme is more expensive to produce than glucose. I guess...

    Variations of WOW!

Right, I have used kwikCLEAR on my first batch of WOW. There was quite rapic settling of sediment, but the wine is still cloudy a week later. The instructions say it could be pectin, or may just need a double dose of kwikCLEAR. I did put in the recommended dose of pectinase at the start...

    Infection risk assessment...

Hi there, My first batch of wine, 5g of Californian Connoisseur Merlot, is ready to bottle. 4 days ago I got hold of a turkey baster. I was eager to try the wine, so I washed it with washing up liquid, briefly dried it, then sucked up some juice. Since then I have been considering my...

Ok, thanks! I have to say, I am yet to even try ANY home made wine, and I have9 gallons on then go. I hope I like it...

    Variations of WOW!

That doesn't sound good about the passion fruit. I'll let you know how it goes... My first batch of WOW is STILL bubbling away (small bubbles at the neck). I still haven't a turkey baster so I'm just leaving it. It has been going almost 2 weeks though. Do you think I should be stopping the...
