    Youngs Lager Kit

Hi bishopsfinger, I've just checked my notes and mine actually got down to 1006 but from what I recall, as long as it is constant over 48 hours, 1010 or below is fine. Hope it turns out ok for you... let us know!

    Corona / sol style lager

I started out with a coopers kit but then tried a youngs and found the youngs turned out better for me, although I did supplement it with a beer enhancer kit so that may have helped? Let us know how you get on if you try the coopers mexican as I'm thinking of giving that a go myself

coopers brew complete!...but is it any good?

I don't know what coopers lager kit you brewed but I found the coopers australian lager to need a good 2 months conditioning before drinking. I still found it a little bitter even then but it was my first lager kit so I'll try it again sometime for a comparison.

    Pressure barrel - flat beer!!

Hi Stephenaxe, I found the same problem with the Youngs barrels. You just can't get the carbonation levels that your used to in commercial lagers. If you don't fancy the hassle of bottling then a corny keg is the only way to go (or if you like a more industrial feel ask your local pub for a...

    Youngs Lager Kit

I'm still very new to this game, myself, but I brewed the youngs definitive lager kit a few weeks back. I was able to keep it in the recommended range (18-24) and it reached final gravity within a week. The fact that your temp is a bit lower probably explains the slower activity and since it's...

    Lager yeast question

Just to update you, it turned out to be a poor seal around the airlock! I took the lid off an it looked pretty encouraging then a hydro reading confirmed that my yeast is alive and well... Panic over!!

    Lager yeast question

Thanks Tubby - I'll take a hydrometer reading tonight and see if anything is happening!

    Lager yeast question

Well, I'm now into the fourth day and no airlock activity - although there does seem to be sediment building up on the bottom and from what I can tell (I haven't been brave enough to open the lid on the fv) there is a froth of some sort on top. I guess it's possible my fv has a leak and the...

    Lager yeast question

Hmm... well I pitched it Friday evening and it's been at a fairly constant 16 C but no bubbling yet... hope it's ok?

Best place to buy Corny kegs?

Sorry... I did search but missed that in my excitement! Thanks for the link. Also, realised this should have been posted in the Equipment section... oh dear... please move as appropriate.

Best place to buy Corny kegs?

Hope you folks don't mind me popping up with yet more questions? I'm very new to home brewing and it's great to find such a friendly place to seek advice and learn the ins and outs! Anyway, after much, much reading and deliberating I think I'm going to plump for a corny keg - this coincided...

    Lager yeast question

Hi all, Following some recommendations on this site I am going to try Muntons Continental Pilsner next. I read somewhere here that Lager yeast makes quite a difference to the final taste so I have bought some Youngs Lager yeast to use instead of the yeast that comes in the kit. Are there any...

    Introduction and first question

Thanks for the advice, Shane. I may well try an AG brew at some stage but wanted to "practice" with some kits first to get some confidence that I'm doing everything correctly!

    Introduction and first question

I've tried it again tonight in the hope of describing it a little better and I think I may have been a bit harsh saying it was undrinkable. It is crystal clear and has a pleasant lagery smell. On the palate it is pretty smooth initially, especially when really chilled (like it was tonight), but...

    Introduction and first question

Thanks for the response. I don't really mind the keg lager being less gassy than it's bottled equivalent as long as the taste is good. So as long as there is no real reason for that to be affected by barreling lager I'll persevere and try to be patient!

    Introduction and first question

Hi, Firstly, thanks for a great forum - I've been lurking for a few weeks now and, having only got into home brew recently, I've learnt loads! I started with a kit of Milestone's Lions Pride, which turned out really well for a first attempt so I thought I'd try a lager next. I'm mostly a lager...
