    Fermentation Time

Thanks! Could I push my luck a bit and do a bit of dry hopping (couple days) when I get home? Or should I bottle straight away?

    Fermentation Time

Morning Everyone, hope you're all having a good weekend thus far. Quick question about how long to leave a brew in the FV. I was thinking of brewing today, I fly home to the UK for crimbo on Thursday till the the 7th of January, so the brew will be in the FV for at least 3 weeks. Is this going...

    American pale/IPA recipe

With oats do you need to do anything special or just chuck em in with the rest of the grain and then mash?

    Plastic Bottles

    Brilliant guys thanks!!

    Plastic Bottles

Would it work? What about the actual plastic itself? It feels very flimsy compared to an FV, would it still work?? Happy days if so!!

    Plastic Bottles

Morning all, hope everyone is having a nice Sunday. I have a question about plastic water bottles. Recently our tap water started to not taste very nice so we've switched to bottled water. This of course means we have mountains of plastic bottles in our house. So, I was wondering could I put...

Best Star SAN Alternative including all new Chemsan

Yeah that's what I thought but I've had a few batches with a real medicinal taste. Not sure if its been infection or the Oxi. All part of the learning process I guess haha

Best Star SAN Alternative including all new Chemsan

Yeah this had crossed my mind, I'm just really wary of sanitiser flavour in my beer. I've ruined a couple of batches now from not rinsing or draining properly before bottling. I'll see how it goes and report back

    5 Litre Cans/Mini Kegs

Yikes I hope not! Just put a load of boiling water in it! Well, if I've knackered it I'll let you all know :confused.:

    Old Hops

I would open them and give em a sniff, if they still smell of hops then they should be ok I imagine. I don't know much about brewing yet but can tell if something has gone off haha

Best Star SAN Alternative including all new Chemsan

Certainly cheaper than StarSan etc. I imagine. Just did a quick shufty to look at prices here and in UK, its less than half price here (around €2 /500mls), so may give it a whirl! Would much rather an alcohol taste in my beer than a vinegary-bleachy one!!

But other than that it would work?? I don't live in the UK

Just a thought, what about pure ethanol as a sanitiser?

    5 Litre Cans/Mini Kegs

The one I've bought hasn't got a tap, just the seal at the top. When you want to use it there's a CO2 tap thingy (that I'm yet to buy) that you stick on the top.

    5 Litre Cans/Mini Kegs

Sorry I meant I bought a reusable one. It came empty. I have seen "how to" videos of people refilling Heineken etc cans, but of course you have to drink what originally comes inside.

    5 Litre Cans/Mini Kegs

Morning all I bought one of those reusable 5L cans. Luckily it was empty so I didn't have to battle through 5 litres of awful Heineken. I'm going to use it for the first time this weekend instead of bottles and I'm wondering the best way to sanitise it. I was thinking of an Oxi soak and then...

    All in one systems.

Being really new to brewing they do look quite tempting, but part of me thinks its "cheating" somehow ?!?

    Trub?

This sounds really interesting. We have a jar of sourdough starter in our fridge, is it as simple as just adding a bit wort (how much?) to create a starter for beer? I was under the impression bread yeast and beer yeast were different beasts and couldn't be used for either/both. But would be...

Best Star SAN Alternative including all new Chemsan

The website I have started using for my brewing stuff have started selling this as an alternative to StarSan https://www.cervezartesana.es/chemipro-acid-1l-heli006.html It's called Chemipro-Acid and seems more or less the same as Star San, not sure if this will be of use/available in UK?
