Brewzilla Gen 4 advice and experiences

It is an interesting idea. If I did it I'd probably go with a Y/T hose splitter off the recirc arm rather than run another line outside the unit from the tap though. That said I'll fiddle with the other settings first. I'm not that paranoid about precise mash temps and if I think the best...

    Igulu F1 'brewing machine'

It's another thing that avoids being an interesting product for hobbyist brewers in pursuit of the casual user gadget with high-value consumables segment. It's a pressure fermenter with temp control and a serving tap. So someone could skip the app and fancy tap screen etc. and stick something...

    Easy clean / Chemsan etc

There's no need to fill a fermenter. All that's needed is enough to coat the inside when you give it a good shake. As I said, I rarely use more than half a litre for a brew session and that's if I don't bother saving the final runoff. I make up 2L at a time and it's used for bottles, fermenter...

    Easy clean / Chemsan etc

Working as intended then. As far as I remember, Chemsan started cropping up the online brewshops when Starsan supplies disappeared from this side of the pond a couple of years back. It's sold as a like for like replacement and that's essentially how I ended up with some as a supplier claimed to...

    Easy clean / Chemsan etc

A litre of chemsan makes 500 litres of the actual sanitiser. I rarely use more than half a litre in a brew session. It's pennies per brew unless you're one of those people who fill entire kegs with the stuff then pour it down the drain.

Brewzilla Gen 4 advice and experiences

I've just been putting the end of the silicon hose roughly at the surface of the liquid at the side of the mash pipe. I find I can achieve this by just laying the hose across the top of the lid so it enters the central hole at an angle and turning the recirc arm depending on the level of the...

Brewzilla Gen 4 advice and experiences

Just finished cleaning up from another brew on the Gen 4. I made a 13L batch of saison -- 2.5kg of grains in 10L of mash water -- and decided to experiment with some simple step mashing to try to dial in some numbers. With the loose mash I had the pump around half open with no issues. For...

MiniBrew Smart Beer Machine? Anyone has experience with it?

These machines aren't attractive to the budget minded or experienced brewing hobbyists*. They're for people who highly value convenience or those who have spare cash and urge to make beer but either don't want to spend the time to learn the processes and make the mistakes or are nervous about...

Brewzilla Gen 4 advice and experiences

Not knowing what you're doing makes it difficult to say much about what you might be "doing wrong". A piece of general advice I've gleaned about all these systems is that it's a good idea to flush the lines during the process to avoid anything building up to the point where it blocks. This is...

Brewzilla Gen 4 advice and experiences

I think it's fair to say that suggestions that the BZ4 is ideal for large/high ABV batches or that things like the extension collar are the way to go if you regularly want to brew big beers or big batches would be misleading. In fact a significant part of the attraction of the unit for me is...

Brewzilla Gen 4 advice and experiences

I'd welcome a fairly priced custom fitted bag but -- as I said up-thread -- my use of a bag is nothing to do with a failure of the unit to handle grain directly in the basket. It's purely for convenience when removing the grain to my compost bins.

Brewzilla Gen 4 advice and experiences

The cheapy (2 for £7.99) bags arrived today. They are either just too small or they'll stretch a bit with the grain and they're pretty much bang on to hold with the drawstring around the lip of the mash pipe. I'll just have to see what happens next brew day.

Brewzilla Gen 4 advice and experiences

I put the grain in the bag and that goes in the pipe. After mashing I can just lift the bag out and take that to the compost rather than have to carry the pipe outside. It's just easier with the particular space I'm working with. I have heard of other people putting the bag outside the pipe but...

Brewzilla Gen 4 advice and experiences

That's fine. I find having the grain in a bag convenient for cleanup. I'm not demanding anyone else use one.

Brewzilla Gen 4 advice and experiences

Has anyone found a reasonably priced mashing bag that fits nicely in the BZ Gen 4 with good overlap at the top to secure it? My current bag barely reaches the lip and is a pain to manage. By "reasonable" I'd be looking for <£15. I've got an order coming for some that claim to be big enough but...

    Brewzilla

I didn't do the replumb so the tap is still run from the pump. I'm still weighing what suits me better but I expect I will reroute the pipes if I can't think of a strong reason why I need it as is. Being able to pump from the tap doesn't seem that useful to me. No issues with clogging from...

    Brewzilla

Just got one from MM myself (finally succumbed based on the discount bundle after many years of "maybe next year" on getting an AIO). The camlock fittings dong hold the recirc or whirlpool arm solidly vertical and that seems normal from the many brewday videos I've watched over the years. I did...
