Nope. Jam jar, eggs etc first. Then insert stick blender.
Fill with oil.
Blast off. Looks like a lava lamp. Lift blender slowly - all done.
Takes longer to get the stuff together than make.

I always use a fork and whisk the bejesus out of it, a bit hard on the old arms but usually worth it in the end.
