Reconnect with you bunch and be more present on the forum

And ... there has to be something shiny.... I would like to gradually move over to triclamp connections for as many things as possible for the ability to see and clean all parts better. I've a myriad of different kind of fittings and I'd like to move to a more commercial standard.

The oxebar kegs are great
Get yourself something to stabilise the keg tho, when either the 4L or the 8L kegs are empty they tends to fall over

Seen somebody using a 2L measuring jug with some water in it so make it bottom heavy

They work great with a nukatap mini

A couple of my recent brews have not come out as good as they could be, so I need to correct that first. I think its ingredients rather than process though.

Perfect my Irish Red.
Have better stock control (both ingredients and beer).
Spend less money on gear.
Brew more lagers.

I forgot to mention. I am hoping to get involved in some more competitions and swaps this year, for fun and improvement.
Does anyone know whether this forum is running the monthly competitions in 2025 as in previous years?

Also intrigued about this as I seen the secret Santa was running but it was too late for me to submit anything. Looking to get involved in 2025

@Leon103 has been organising the monthly competitions for a few years i don't think this year will be any different

I've two, one much bigger than the other.

The main one is to get a shed I have converted into a brew space. The main hold up is that it needs a sealing (PVC) door and a proper electricity supply capable of running through equipment I need. I can do everything else myself but finding someone to do those two things has been the stumbling block for the past 18 months.
If I don't get it all done coming into next winter then I can see myself throwing my hat at the brewing altogether as I'm sick of carting everything out every time and relying so much on the weather. It's starting to become a chore more than something I enjoy.

The other is to scale back what I'm making to 3 or 4 recipes that I like. One dry stout, one lager, one pale ale, and maybe something else and try to really nail them down. Handier for ingredients, etc.

Strangely I didn't get this notification.
I havent done a thread this year, to be honest since the summer there have been a massive down turn in competitors and interest as really dropped. Not sure what the December comp is looking like.

If you can do every thing else, I am sure you could do the leccy.

I always find the tricky bit is either the cost of the cable or burying it?

A brewshed makes all the difference.

Yeah a brew space is probably the most important piece of "equipment" for brewing really. I don't know how I've lasted so long dragging everything out to the kitchen that I need and then hoping it won't rain for long enough to let me boil and chill.

I'm happy enough painting walls and floors, wood panelling ceilings, plumbing, and even doing all the internal electrics from a consumer unit but it's getting that initial supply from the main unit at the far side of the house to the shed. Building work also scares the bejesus out of me so I'm afraid once I start cutting walls to fit in the PVC door the whole place is going to come down around me. The other option is to get one custom made for the opening that's there already (even though I'd like a bit wider) but finding anyone doing trades here is almost impossible these days - the housing situation has everyone in Australia.

I don't really want to sell up my gear after gathering it all for so many years but I'm thinking of going back to kits until I can get something sorted.

@6Trails ever thought about brewing on gas ? Solves all the worries about laying cable etc.
I started using bottled gas as I didn't want to overload the basic electrics in my shed, I BIAB so also no chance of burning the bag on an element.

I have a burner and a propane bottle there from an old system I built myself out of 3 x 50l kegs before I got my AIO system, but I don't think I'd even trust the existing wiring that was in the shed when we moved in for the likes of a HLT or recirculation control.
My long term plan if I ever got the shed done was to go back to the 3 vessel 50l with a HERMS and use the gas for boiling.

Mine will involve getting a dedicated brewing space. We’re moving into a new house in the next few weeks.
Job 1 is to pinch some of the garage to extend the utility room into a bigger utility room / brewing area.

Undoubtedly some of the brewing area will spill into the garage but this is a marked improvement on brewing outside and storing all the gear in the shed.

Will also give me a permanent home for my slightly nomadic brew fridge (and hopefully a dedicated fermentation fridge)….
