Help over carbonated hazy ipa

It’s been a long time since I’ve bottle conditioned beer but needs must and as these were for my son in law I had to bottle. I am aware of the reasons for over carbonation , bottling too early, too much priming sugar and infection etc.
That said I have ruled out infection as the beer tastes fine.
My question is what to do next.
The beer reached FG and was bottled using a beer gun into PET bottles and dosed with a sugar solution ( I suspect too much ) Kept @20°c for 10 days then left in in unheated garage. First sample after 7 days was fine if a little lively but poured well.
Today after a further 3 weeks I noticed one of the bottles had jumped out of the crate and the bottom was split ! Hoping it was a one off I opened another bottle to find a gusher I did manage to save the beer and it tasted great 👍🏼.
The beer is now in a fridge @ 2°c I was thinking that I could vent ? the beer by opening the twist lid and then sealing it up again. Has anyone got first hand knowledge of this ? Or is there a better way ?

Like Jof, I've done this successfully with screw caps, swing tops and to a lesser extent, crown caps.

My advice would be to loosen them a bit, and do it gradually. The beer will likely foam up and if you leave them open they'll start foaming out of the top, so little and often would be me recommendation. If you chill them first (fridge or garage at this time of year) they'll foam less. After a short bit, you'll get a feel for it. I normally have to do this a few times a day for a few days until they've lost sufficient carbonation that I can leave them still cracked open a bit, but without foaming. Then I leave them for a few hours and after that they've lost enough carbonation to be "normal" again.

Whilst I've been lucky and not really experienced a full on gusher or had an bottle bombs (hope I'm not tempting fate!) but I do sometimes get a lively bottle where attempting to pour it into a pint glass is a complete disaster. Ideally you want to pour the whole bottle in one go to avoid disturbing the sediment so now for any of my bottles I have a big jug that I pour the bottle into first, then if there is a massive head I can leave it for 10 minutes or so to settle before pouring it into my pint glass.

My son did suggest I just drink it out of the jug but I have some standards 😁
