Hello all
On my jaunt around Tesco earlier I noticed the distinct absence of tomato puree (paste) in tubes.
Research says there have been supply chain issues, weather issues and products that are labelled "Italian" containing Chinese slave labour grown tomatoes! Supermarket own brands are the most affected.
They've probably withdrawn the products.

"Water shortages -
"Water shortages have affected and are still affecting the fields. If not dealt with as a matter of great urgency, this could become a major problem in the next few years and lead to a significant economic weakening of one of the pillars of our southern Italian economy."

Tesco online shoppers have been left frustrated as they struggled to find a staple item, with the supermarket chain acknowledging "supply issues" affecting the product. Shoppers have been left struggling to get hold of tomato puree at a time when European tomato harvests have been facing challenges.

Looking at the question of what could be causing the shortage, reports came out recently of the tomato harvest in Italy being affected by climate change and other issues. As reported in Tomato News, the CEO of Mutti group, Francesco Mutti, said in September: "Water shortages have affected and are still affecting the fields. If not dealt with as a matter of great urgency, this could become a major problem in the next few years and lead to a significant economic weakening of one of the pillars of our southern Italian economy."

I'm wondering if there is any about incorrectly labelled or has indeed been produced under cruel circumstances its been removed from sale or supplies halted?

That's the conversation I was having with someone earlier today.
We haven't been able to get any from Tesco for a couple of weeks and I thought it was too much of a coincidence that the shortage happened just after the report appeared about Chinese tomatoes and forced labour

What a lot of people do not understand there are shortages all the time, you will see items disappear for a couple of weeks then reappear.
This is caused by the shortage of lorry drivers most of the time. It takes 4 lorry drivers for most products.
1. Raw goods to the factory for manufacture or processing/or from import docks.
2. Factory to the suppliers warehouse.
3 Suppliers warehouse to the RDC(regional distribution centre) of supermarkets.
4. RDC to the actual supermarket.
This has been going on for years now and still you will see some parts of shelves empty for this reason.
Motto of this story become a Lorry driver for the big supers if you want job security at the moment

My local Lidl (SW London) has been very hit & miss with supplies of tomato paste. Sometimes none for a couple of weeks. None there last Saturday, but Aldi had some. I hardly ever used to buy it, but I came across a brilliant recipe for butter chicken from a guy called Nik Sharma. It’s now my favourite curry to cook at home.
