I recently purchased a Fermzilla 3.2 (with spunding valve). Now this was a bit of an impulse buy, but I'm pleased with my purchase.
Now, I have in the past made my beer from beer kits like Mangrove Jack's Hazy IPA, for example - where i've used a fermentation bucket to prepare the wort and ferment. Then I've transferred to my corny.
I was under the impression that I would no longer need a fermentation bucket, and could prepare and ferment the wort in the Fermzilla......but when i set to do this on Sunday i was unsure of the procedure. So i ended up mixing the beer in my fermentation bucket first, before transferring to the fermzilla. Is this correct?
 
When I did kits I would steep them in hot water, put a few litres of boiling water into the bucket and pour the cans in to dissolve and then top up to volume with room temp water. pouring boiling water into a fermzilla is a no no, if memory serves its limit is 65c? Open to correction on that.

I've still got to get to grips with the fermzilla, let alone the spunding valve!

No, you can cool before decanting into the Fermzilla. That's what I do. I suspect most people do this.

ok, sorry - i just want to get this clear......
  1. add boiling water to beer kit
  2. stir and dissolve
  3. add beer enhances, sugars etc (if needed)
  4. let it cool
  5. decant into fermzilla
  6. add yeast
Does this sound right?

Yep. Would just add that with kits, you generally have to make up to volume with cold water, so that should get the temperature down to pitching level, so shouldn't have to wait.

Yes mix the kit with the hot water and then top up with cold water in the fermenting bin ( bucket).
Transferring from bucket two firmzilla will also aerate the wort.
 
I tend to mix the syrups in a bucket with hot water, then add them to cold water in the Zilla, so I'm not trying to get 23 litres of liquid through the Zilla lid... Also helps to mix the extract evenly, I find...
