Dry hopped beer should be consumed within 6 months

The aroma and hoppy taste you get from dry hopped beers (especially NEIPA) will fade over time, but I agree no need to rush to drink so quickly , will still be nice well after that ..
 
I shared a bottle of mikkeller/brewpigs cumulus humulus ('their most heavily hopped beer') at bottle shop, it was fantastic!! It was not cheap. I bought a bottle to share at my local pub but waited a few, possibly 4 months for suitable occasion, took it in, poured, very underwhelmed, seemed to have lost all dry hopped characteristics.
 
Got chatting to a pro about this today.
He was explaining that the cans last a long time because they're chilled from day 1.
Kegs, on the other hand, aren't. And often once opened, because most bars and pubs don't actually chill kegs, instead using a chiller system, they go off fairly quickly.

So that's the answer! Put them somewhere cold and they'll last much longer.
 
Fundamentally, no. The preservative nature of dry hopping was used to ensure beers lasted far longer than six months. However, if your beer is designed to only get its flavour and aroma from dry hopping, once that goes you are left with nothing, so best to consume them as soon as possible.
