Shopping in Aldi this afternoon I saw this Madri like beer so bought it. The positive is that it was brewed in Spain unlike Madri. The negative was that it was bland. I won’t buy it again but it was cheap at £1.79 for a 660ml bottle.

£3.65 a pint
The last time I was in a pub, two quid a pint was fairly common unless it was something fancy, that's inflation for ya!

The last of my non-standard beers before I have a few cans of good old Doom Bar...

Definitely enjoyed this one more than the Erdingers, although they're not remotely alike, but certainly this is more my kinda thing.

Today a Barley Wine BA "Südseefeuer / South Sea Fire"

My brewing friend and I brewed this BW in spring 2023 after a year of planning, finding the recipe, sourcing the cask and the ingredients.

At the Central German Hobby Brewers' Meeting in June 2024, we took 1st place out of all the beers entered.

A Barley Wine is able to literally ‘get the best’ out of wooden barrels, regardless of whether they are brand new or come from different wineries or distilleries. In these cases, it is not just what the barrels previously contained that matters. The wood from which the barrels are made is very important: each type of wood has its very own characteristics, such as porosity and absorbency, not to mention its distinct scent. In this sense, the choice of barrel is similar to the choice of malt, hops or yeast. Wood could be defined as the ‘fifth ingredient’ and has a decisive influence on the flavour characteristics of a beer.

This Barley Wine was brewed by hand with selected ingredients and a special recipe and matured for 210 days in a pre-seasoned Fuji Ron oak barrel.

Brewed by hand, with heart and mind.

Alk. 12.6 vol.%, drinking temp. 15°C
Vintage: 2023, bottle no. 0065
