I have always been interested in drones and have owned a couple of small indoor ones but never made the jump to a proper outdoor drone with a camera due to the jump in price, having spent agers looking i have finally pulled the trigger and have bought a DJI Mini 2 SE its highly recommended for beginners so lets see how a total novice gets on with it.

This is a sub 250g drone which means you are allowed to fly a lot closer to buildings and people (not big crowds) than you are allowed with a big drone.

Are there any drone flyers here?

I used to have a commercial ticket for flying a drone and used it for inspection work and photography. I still have 2 drones but don't use them any more and have let my ticket lapse.
 
yeah, i did a couple of courses to get qualified for commercial use (not that i needed it0 have a DJI mavic enterprise that is a bit bigger, use it for mapping river habitats etc
 
It seems crazy that you have to register if the drone is under 250g and has a camera yet you dont if it doesn't have one.

BTW i am not comparing this to more expensive drones its limited to 2.7k video but i dont need 4k and there is no follow feature but again i knew that when i bought it, flight time are also around 30 minutes that's why i bought the full package as it comes with 3 batteries and a charging station.
 
You will have loads of fun. About y time I got the phantom out again.

The home office wants to know where all the camera drones are as they can be a security risk.

I don’t fly drones, I fly planes - gliders, jets, wings, slope soarers. Made one completely from scratch with no plans using bits from a kite, the polystyrene packaging that another plane came in and some 3D printed parts. It eventually flew :cool:. I made a deal with myself when I started that I would resist drones and helicopters as I knew I’d run out of space to put them.
 
It has arrived and its all set up ready for my first flight its too windy today so with luck i may fly it tomorrow.

I have been through all the settings having watched a few YouTube videos so hopefully i wont have any disasters.

The return to home button gives me confidence it wont be a disaster ;)

I did this too, even passed my BMFA B Cert to fly at public displays. I still have boxes of stuff in the loft!

I keep meaning to get my certs. I'm in two clubs and both have examiners.

You should dig out your stuff and flog it. There are active buy/sell pages on FB and someone I know can't rest unless he's just bought something (old or new). What have you got ?

Everything - if it’s still any good after so long in the loft. Materials, tools, kits, planes, gliders, engines, radios, …

I don’t know if I can bring myself to get rid of it, even after 20 years! 😂
 
I still haven't flown the weather has been awful here. :mad:

I did try a short test flight indoors (space is very limited) it is much more stable than the cheap drone i used to have, the camera is very good.
 
I have only flown the drone on three days as the weather has been very wet and way too windy, on the days when there was less wind i managed to get some practice in and some footage to play with and i was surprised how it coped in the gusts of wind being so small and light, i have never done any editing before thankfully there are plenty of free online video editors which were suggested as for beginners I am using CapCut desktop version though you can it use online.

I am still getting used to the controls so the video does stutter occasionally best to view full screen as its in 2.7K.
