I would like to brew a dark ale kit (not decided which yet),and i would like to use black treacle.the question is do you use all treacle instead of sugar if so how much treacle equals how much sugar? or do you still use sugar and add treacle.

I have not used all treacle before, but have primed a brown ale with treacle, adding an extra 20%. This turned out brilliantly and definitely had an almost liquorice taste to it, but not overpowering.

I'm not sure about using all treacle, but if you love the flavour of it then give it a blast. Home brewing is all about experimenting! :thumb:

I'd go for 1.2kg of treacle if the kit asks for 1kg of sugar.

A Little bit of treacle goes a long way . . . I prime my Old Peculier clone with 2oz of treacle and you can certainly taste it . . .I would not want to add more than 100g to a 5 gallon batch
