    Obtaining bottles

Paper labels, some with a plastic film on them. But the totally plastic labels will not come off by soaking (maybe sulphuric acid ) I usually peel those slowly and remove glue residue using some stuff I bought at screwfix (sticky label remover)

    Bottle labelling

I buy Avery type labels and use the label function in Microsoft word. 10 labels per sheet. Come of easily in warm water and washing up liquid. I have lots of beer "cellaring" so it helps me keep track, and also gift a lot of bottles.

    Obtaining bottles

I guess the dishwashing liquid (fairy) breaks the surface tension to allow better soaking, oxyclean dissolves the glue?

    Obtaining bottles

Yes, fairy liquid alone doesn't do it. For some reason, most of my belgian beer bottles' labels come off in just water.

    Obtaining bottles

Apart from the "Self Adhesive" type labels. I soak my bottles in washing up liquid and Oxyclean (poundshop version unfragranced). They usually float off. Bottles need a good rinse afterwards as the Oxyclean leaves a white residue behind.

    Airlock v sealed feementing

A "bucket" type fermenter will never be 100% air tight (unless fitted with a seal/clamp arrangement) so the lid will act as a form of airlock, venting CO2 when a certain pressure is reached. An airlock will give you a visual indication of fermentation rate..

Equipment For Sale FOR SALE new iSpindels - fully build and tested - £25 collected or £30 posted

Just double check the interval hasn’t magically changed on it’s own. On a recent brew, I thought I would redo the 0deg (actually 90deg) adjustment in the config menu. I didn’t check the settings and dropped it into the fermenter. It had gone from 900sec interval to 1sec. The battery level...

    Brewuk website "down for maintenance"

Brewuk-Youngs is a Google search result trying to take you to a sub page, of Youngs products, on the brewuk website. The website is still down "under maintenance" and ANY sub page gives a "404" error.

    Brewuk website "down for maintenance"

I ordered a part for my Braumeister back in January. No confirmation email but could see my order when I logged into their website, they also took the money from my card. A week or two went by so I emailed them, no reply (apart from the automated ****). So phoned a few times (answerphone), but...

    bad batch of beer

My method: Clean bottles with weak washing-up liquid/hot water using a bottle brush, rinse then leave on my "bottle tree" to dry. I then store these bottles with cheap plastic push on caps until I have a bottling day. On bottling day, I sanitize all the bottles I need (40x500ml) using Starsan (I...

    Guinness Foreign Extra Stout

Here is a recipe from the book "Brew Classic European Beers at Home". I have never made it so cannot vouch for it, maybe a good starting point.

    Corny keg and bottle fridge

If you want to use a freezer as a kegerator, then a chest freezer is your only option. Upright freezers have shelves (which are the freezy bits) which cannot be removed. I am using an under counter larder fridge (no ice box) which is also fitted out as a spare fermentation chamber. (It was my...

    Co2 in Cornwall?

I use R. Sleep in Camelford. Order online through Adam’s Gas, pick up at “Sleep’s”. Refill for 1.5kg cylinder was about £15 as far as I remember. Original cylinder was around £40. (Early 2022). https://www.adamsgas.co.uk/product/carbon-dioxode-co2-gas-refill-1-5kg-for-home-bar/

    England 0 - 4 Hungary

My problem with Southgate is that he is too slow to react and make changes, both tactical and personnel. As an aside, I thought John Stones played poorly (amongst others) but was unlucky getting his first and second yellow cards. I thought the referee let too many niggly fouls go (on both sides).

What do you stand your Kettle /Brewzilla / Grainfather /Brewtools etc on?

I stand my Braumeister (20L) on a "dolly". A piece of MDF with a castor in each corner. Helps me wheel the vessel to my kitchen back door when doing the boil. similar to this: Roughneck Dolly Without Handle | Toolstation

    Who does the cheapest P&P

If I am buying "Recipe Kits" (Malt/Hops/Yeast/chemicals/caps etc.), I tend to try and order my next two brews in one hit (from Geterbrewed). Makes the £6.50 DPD courier cost less per brew. If I am just buying stuff I have forgotten or specific hops that GEB didn't stock, I use Ebay. Some...

    Ispindel leaking!!

My 10c worth - Never use ptfe tape - its pointless. The thread on the cap is a "three start" thread and is not providing any seal. Adding ptfe tape wil not seal it any better, just make the thread a bit slippy (at best) or less effective (at worst). The seal on the cap is provided by the lip of...

    Another ruined batch !!?

You can use a refractometer to measure final gravity (although it won't be as accurate as an hydrometer. You enter your reading into a calculator along with your starting gravity, click "Calculate" and there you have it. The attached link (if it works) is to Sean Terrills online calculator which...
