Changing yeast/maybe use a lager yeast

Well, just checking in as promised. I racked to secondary today which I've primed. Now, just thinking, do I need to warm this baby up to get carbonation going or can I just leave it at its current temp (currently about 7-8 degrees for a few weeks to condition)? I'm not in any desperate rush to...

Is a soylent Green dry hop normal?!

Yeah, it's a beerworks kit. The instructions are (and I quote) "Add the foil bag of hops as below. Empty the hops into a clean 1 litre jug, use a knife to break them up (for around 1 minute) then add 500ml of boiling water. Continue to use the knife to pulverise thw hops in the water for a...

Is a soylent Green dry hop normal?!

Thanks guys. On the plus side when I opened the fermenter to lob the hops in the brew smelt brilliant so I'm thinking it seems on course in general. Fingers crossed!

Is a soylent Green dry hop normal?!

I'll chuck them in as pellets next time then. Is it likely I've ruined the beer? In theory, they've just ended up as they would have done anyway I guess.

    Hello from West Wales

Thanks for the welcome folks, this is a really great forum. Glad so many of you enjoy Wales. I can highly recommend the Ship and Castle in Aberystwyth; frequently a CAMRA Wales champion pub, and always has a brilliant selection of beers on tap, including my favorite, Oakham's Citra, which I've...

Is a soylent Green dry hop normal?!

Evening folks. I'm following a recipe for my latest kit brew that requires dry hopping. Because I don't want the hops clogging up my filter my plan was to put them into a mesh bag and lob the hops in. Anyway, the instructions called for me to 'pulverise' the 50g of hop pellets for a couple of...

    Hello from West Wales

Hi folks, Thought it was about time I chimed in to say hello. I've been on the forum for a few months since doing my first home brew in summer 2020, which was a Courage Director's Bitter (which went OK!). I'm very much a novice at the moment, currently knocking together a lagerized version...

Looking for a book on the history and development of beer styles

Hi folks, I've beem reading the excellent 'How to Brew' for a while now in between making my own brews. I'm a beginner and my house only had a very small kitchen so for now I'm extract brewing. I'd like to learn more about the history of the different kinds of beer styles that are put there...

Changing yeast/maybe use a lager yeast

Well, got this brew on yesterday and pitched two 11.5 g packets of S-23. I've got the fermenter steady at 12.4 degrees and we're 18 hours in. No signs of much activity yet but I've heard that S-23 can have quite a lag time to get going (up to 72 hours in some cases) so I'm not overly worried...

Changing yeast/maybe use a lager yeast

Pretty much! 🤣. Last week it was down to -7 ambient outdoors as I live about 1,000 ft up in rural Ceredigion (mid Wales). This week it's warmer, so about 7 degrees outside but I have no central heating and just a multifuel stove, so aside from the living room it's about ten degrees indoors on...

Changing yeast/maybe use a lager yeast

Cheers folks. I suspect it'll take a few weeks to ferment and then a month or so to condition given my home temperatures, should be ready by about the end of February I reckon.

Changing yeast/maybe use a lager yeast

Evening folks. My next homebrew project is going to be a Sheepdog's Pride Suffolk Bitter kit, but just to make things interesting I'm thinking of using a different yeast to see what happens (pondering using Young's ale yeast rather than the kit yeast). However, as I live in an absolutely...
