What are you drinking tonight 2020.

Im hoping to make that from the apples I’m fermenting. I saw a cold crash video and I might give that a go.

ahhh 2.8% no wonder I could drink more of that. Still I liked it. No accounting for taste.

    2020 Cider season

I started a cider today. Our Apple yield wasn’t great, I only managed to squeeze about 5ltrs of juice so I’ve added a further 12ltrs of apple juice and 3ltrs of apple and mango.

    Bishops Finger - yuck!

I find that any S&N is a good beer. I’ve not tried Bishops finger for quite a few years but I remember it as a good pint. I think I first tried it at a Beer Festival in Northampton. Way back when people could stand in the same field as one another.....anyway I digress. Another nice easy drinking...

    Marmite

That’ll no doubt go well on a crusty bread slice of toast.

    What did you brew today?

holy ****!!! I feel so inadequate right now. That’s one hell of an in-depth ingredient analysis.

    What did you brew today?

Yesterday I bottled some Pinot Grigio from the cellar 7 kit. Very clear and tasty. Now I’ll leave (most of) it in the outhouse to mature. although I’ve just realised I should have posted that in the wine section 🤦‍♂️

    What did you brew today?

Just bottled my concoction 1 tin of malt extract, 1kg of beer enhancer, 400g of honey and about 25g of hops. I’ve called it dishwater. It tastes beautiful (to me) and I’m hoping it settles nicely.

Common brewing practices you’ve never done

I don’t even know what half of that means 😜

    Blew my top

I’ve returned to the outhouse where I keep my first batch of brewed Supermarket Wine to find that 4 of the 40 odd bottles had blown out the corks. The bottles were laying on their side. The wine inside was still quite fizzy so I’m guessing some secondary fermentation may have been going on as...

    Degassing via vacuum

Can’t say I’ve noticed any difference in the taste compared to using a spoon. Then again I’ve only had the wine sitting in the bottles for a month but it still tasted ok

    Degassing via vacuum

Being an ex refrigeration engineer I have a vacuum pump and gauges etc. A shraeder valve fits nicely into the air lock bung so I though I’d give it a go. I can confirm that the plastic 25lt FV collapsed inwards and the wine lost very little co2. Hmmm I won’t be using that method again. I’ve...

New to this game - a couple of questions

I too was overwhelmed by all the science that I read goes into brewing. I suppose it’s like most things in that, it’s as complicated as you want it to be. I’ve brewed many bottles of wine now. These range from the first few batches of supermarket wine from cordial to proper Pinot and Merlot...

How many litres of home brew 2020.

23 litres of Merlot and a further 23litres of Peach and Mango wine bottled today. I forgot to add the 25 litres of John Bull so that’s 15360. Nicely rounded up.

    Show us your dog

MENTAL!! Especially as there are so many unwanted dogs out there. It’s seems crazy to spend that amount of money on what was once considered a mutt. My wife is a Dog Behaviourist and people buy these type of dogs because they’re cute, then they realise they can be really difficult breeds...
