    Possible Hefeweizen fail...

It's a habit I've developed over my last few brews with other whc yeasts, largely in part due to the low cost and reading about problems with people under pitching. Also the Brewfather calculator suggests to use 2 packs. I am aware though that weizens need a stressed yeast to produce certain...

    Possible Hefeweizen fail...

Well,4 days conditioning so the obligatory taster! Everything a weizen should be regarding mouthfeel, appearance, aroma.. with the previously mentioned lack of banana.. and a quite distinct tartness on the backend (possible Chemsan suckback from blow off tube?)… nevertheless it will be drunk...

    What are you drinking 2024.

Merry Saturday folks! Slurping my hazy ipa (just golden promise, el dorado and Amarillo hops).. rocking in at a precarious 6.8%, not a bad looking brew for a bottle conditioned hazy!

    Possible Hefeweizen fail...

Ok folks, thanks for all your input and help, it’s very much appreciated. So a quick update, just took a sample a it seems to have cleaned up considerably over the last few days. I’m still lacking any Banana notes, I’m putting this down to no chilling overnight in a plastic cube for the first...

    Possible Hefeweizen fail...

I've used various WHC dried yeasts over the last few months with success, so I'm leaning more towards either an overpitch or an infection..

    Possible Hefeweizen fail...

Hi folks, just after some advice and thoughts! I am just in the process of brewing my third Weizen in as many months due to developing a real taste for the style! My previous two 14L batches were made with the Wyeast 3068 smack packs, and with great success. My latest attempt is a full 23L into...

    Potential bottle carbonation tip

The bottle opening is not much bigger that the slots on the Zevro inserts. Additionally, you can't see through the base of the dispenser to line it up.... you must be a sublime shot not to make a mess and get sugar everywhere!

    Potential bottle carbonation tip

The dispersion from the zevro is too wide, you need a funnel, but I sterilise a small funnel in advance so it’s dry. I then go from bottle to bottle with the zevro in one hand, and the funnel in another… it can be done instantly in one movement and is significantly quicker than using a measuring...

    Potential bottle carbonation tip

Ah, I picked up a Zevro on eBay a few weeks ago, very reasonable and quick delivery, with the aid of a small funnel I can now add sugar to 40 bottles in 1.5 minutes 😄 (thanks mash bag)

    Potential bottle carbonation tip

Sounds like a good viable option.. is there not a level of dilution using this method?

    Potential bottle carbonation tip

I’m resisting the move to kegging, although would be the most time efficient method.. it just does not suit my lifestyle. I’m only consuming angel juice one evening max per week for health reasons (lost 3.5 stone this year so far) and having a keg set up would be disastrous on that front!

    Potential bottle carbonation tip

Blimey, never seen those before, they do indeed look an even better option! Will definitely be cheaper in the long run, and comfortably beats my 3 seconds per sachet 😂

    Potential bottle carbonation tip

Just a quick one, though this may help people who don’t like racking and batch priming (like myself), and are stuck between the choice of carbonation drops or faffing around, trying to perfectly measure individual quantities of sugar per bottle. I’ve started using these...

Perfect, thanks for this… I shall be ordering the additions asap! Would these 5G quantities be based on a standard 23L batch?

    Novice water advice!

Thanks all, I currently have a Weissbier and a pseudo pilsner (fermenting warm using kveik lutra) on the go, so hopefully the soft water won’t be detrimental to these styles…

    Novice water advice!

admittedly I really should have read and researched this thread more before posting… I just become a little jaded with the science and it all too quickly becomes ‘duff beer and donuts’ to me 😖

    Novice water advice!

Many thanks for the reply, oh I see, it seems the screenshots are compressed when uploaded....I have just edited original post and copied and pasted all the data within the PDF (cannot provide a link as its just a downloadable pdf of the report).. I hope this helps! There seems to be plenty of...
