Long standing brewer always looking to improve

It might be worth posting your recipe, including any water treatments, because that will take some of the guesswork out. Also, what do you mean by “second boil”?

    What are you drinking 2024.

The more I drink the drier my mouth! 😂

    What are you drinking 2024.

For my taste that would make it more drinkable and more enjoyable, as it is it puts me in mind of Jackhammer! If you’ve not tried the original you can get it in Morrisons - might be worth trying it before you brew a batch?

    What are you drinking 2024.

I had a couple of pints of Sussex Best in the pub and then picked up this 5-Points Best on the way home. I’ve seen @dave_77 with a bottle a few times and have been meaning to try it because it uses the same ingredients as my own best bitter. The 5-Points version is lighter in colour, is less...

Sorry! Mind you, it’s about time we had some better weather.

    What are you drinking 2024.

I’ve had to dress the gazebo because it’s just too hot to sit in the open. I’ve since moved on to my Full English Best Bitter.

    What are you drinking 2024.

Today I’ve planted up those raised beds I rebuilt (though still haven’t painted) so time for a beer. I’m mixing it up today by starting with a Pirate Pale. 😉

    What are you drinking 2024.

I was just woken up from a snooze by drops of rain falling on my face. How rude! I’ve come indoors with a Pirate Pale.

    What are you drinking 2024.

Pretty much a repeat of yesterday but I did go to the garden centre and bought some plants. I’ve planted up the pots at the front of the house and stopped for a beer or two. Full English to start.

Moving on to my Pirate Pale now.

    What are you drinking 2024.

I’ve managed to spend the day in the garden but it has been pretty windy. Time for a beer now and I fancy a glass of my Full English Best Bitter.

    Finings in a closed fermenter

Ah yes. Again, give it a go. I can’t see it giving you a problem, it will work well to brighten your beer or not - either way you’ll learn something and still have nice beer.

    Finings in a closed fermenter

It might work although in general the finings are added at the surface and as they drop they gather and take particles down with them. If they start at the bottom I’m not sure how effective they will be. Gas post?

    Finings in a closed fermenter

Many of us add gelatine to the keg to brighten the beer and there’s no issue force carbonating. I can’t advise on the level of impact on secondary fermentation but you could try and fall back on forced carbonation if there is a serious impact - then you can tell us! 😉

I’m on the Fife & Drum from Musket, pub lunch 😋

    What are you drinking 2024.

My guests were supposed to arrive at 2:30. I think I’ve given them long enough so I’m starting without them. Pirate Pale.

    Beer line calculator for nitro

2/2 To use 30/70 you need a higher pressure than for CO2 as mentioned. How high will depend on temperature and how gassy you want the beer. Often nitro is used for stouts and you might be looking for just 1.1 - 1.3 volumes of CO2. This will put you in the range of 35-45 psi for a keg at...

    Beer line calculator for nitro

1/2 Starting with the gas…. CO2 is readily dissolved into solution whereas nitrogen is not, nitrogen really needs to be forced into solution using pressure (and cold temperatures if you wish). CO2 also readily comes out of solution but nitrogen once in solution isn’t too fussed about leaving...

    What are you drinking 2024.

I’ve been at the pub tonight because they had a clairvoyant and my wife daughter/her friend wanted to go. I spent the evening at the bar because that’s not for me, beer definitely is. Home now and just a taste of my latest batch of bitter before we have friends round tomorrow. It’s nice now...
