    Sauvignon Blanc WOW query

I'm going to have a go at the @Wino12 recipe for Sauvignon Blanc that is at Sauvignon Blanc ish I've got all of the ingredients bar the passion fruit, including GV9 yeast. So I have a few days to find some. I see it uses inverted sugar, something I've not tried yet, however I do have citric...

    VWP cleaner / steriliser query

For newish VWP powder, I'm wondering how long does it remain effective please? Reason for asking is if I put it in a demijohn overnight, can I transfer to another in the morning and expect it to work? Not hugely important in the grand scheme of things however I prefer to avoid waste if possible...

Alternative to an airlock after second racking

Hello For kit wines, I prefer to de-gass naturally by just keeping the wine under an airlock in 5L demijohns for a few months. The trouble is, I end up with demijohns in various places in the house, and sometimes omit to keep the odd airlock topped up. Is there anything I could use to stopper...

    30 bottle wine kit query

When making single gallons it's normal to keep the demijohn topped up to the neck once the first few days of vigorous fermentation are over, including after racking. What do people brew and rack 30 bottle kits in to please? The 5 gallon fermenters have at least a gallon of airspace above the 5...

    Steriliser query

I ran out of steriliser and had a brew to bottle, so nipped in to Lakeland on my way home from work and bought a small tub of steriliser. It seems its a different chemistry to what I usually use. For better or worse I left some bottles soaking in it fully immeresed in a fermenting bucket. A...

    Old boots cider kit

I "inherited" an ancient boots cider kit, 2001 best before date, but will give it a go if it smells OK when I open it. All I got was a can containing 1.65 Kg of concentrate. No instructions or yeast, but the can indicates it makes 32 pints. I've got a starter bottle on the go from a beer kit I...

    Good brew day yesterday

Bit of a brew day yesterday. Racked a 30 bottle California Connoisseur Pinot Grigio kit as it had been at .994 for 7 days. Tastes like its going to be very palatable. Sampled a Beaverdale Pinot Grigio I gallon that has been bulk ageing for 3 months. Too dry for our taste so did some sweetening...

    Hello

Hello I've been lurking for a while and thought it time to introduce myself. I'm returning to home brewing after a long absence (not abstinence). I've got a couple of gallons of elderflower on the go, a gallon of grape juice wine and a few wine kits plus 40 pints of kit beer. I'm looking forward...
