The downfall of the Tory party.

Poll-Daddy Sir John Curtice breaks down the local results in this video, which is also available as a podcast: One of the factors to think about is that Reform didn't stand in most of the local elections, and they will almost exclusively gain their votes from previously Conservative voters.

The downfall of the Tory party.

People without pensions is certainly a huge problem, and pension auto enrolment is something I'm willing to give some credit to the Tories for. The 8% minimum (3% from employer) isn't enough, but it's a lot better than nothing. State mandated saving also feels like it would be anathema to...

What do you mean by 'private pensions'? Defined benefit pension schemes that are on their way to failing or something else?

    Electric cars.

Awesome. I look forward to hearing about it. Which version have you got? I'm guessing a first gen facelift (post 2020) model?

Means testing always seems to be one of those things that makes complete sense but then you inevitably find huge loopholes, and the whole cost of administering the scheme ends up costing a large chunk of the money you avoid paying out. As people get older they supposedly get more conservative...

The downfall of the Tory party.

I was in Bruges a couple of weeks ago, and while on the roof of the De Haalve Maan brewery I was told that the view/skyline was highly protected so that’s why there were no new looking or tall buildings. I then turned around and saw 6 massive wind turbines about a mile away.

The downfall of the Tory party.

There definitely has to be a push back on NIMBYism, it's stifled our ability to build houses and other useful pieces of infrastructure. The problem is that we're living far longer than when the state pension was created, and as the population gets older there's not going to be enough people...

Well the timing seems like the latter, but to cross the divide is never straight forward.

Electrical engineers and electricians assemble! brew controller question

This thread has reminded me to check what relay is in my current controllers and how warm they get. The relay is directly mounted to the metal case that acts as a heat sink, but that's it. I also use the controllers in hysteresis mode rather than PID control, so perhaps not the best if there's...

Electrical engineers and electricians assemble! brew controller question

Manual mode doesn't mean that. Normally a PID in this application will pulse an element on and off over a set period of time, and it uses an algorithm to decide how much 'on' time is in the pulse. e.g. if your control period is 4 seconds and the PID algorithm decides it needs 75% power then...

The downfall of the Tory party.

In my borough the council is controlled by the Residents Association, and has been since 1937. They’re actually very good at everything apart from campaigning, where the other parties all send out leaflets attacking them, and then lose anyway. The next GE is going to be a good one for...

The downfall of the Tory party.

By election turnouts not long before an election tend to be bad, but elsewhere the turnout was ok. Sadiq Khan got more votes than in 2021, despite all the rhetoric against him.

The downfall of the Tory party.

Well done to Count Binface for getting 24,620 votes for London Mayor. While a million votes short of winning, he still got 3,741 votes more than the Britain First candidate.
