Yet another new member...

Good day to everyone. I'm Ray. I've been home brewing for near 40 years, in the Cheltenham Gloucester area. I have a question for the knowledgeable. Are there any supermarkets or the like, national concerns included, that stock home brew kits. I would much prefer picking them up at my convenience rather than waiting in at some deliverers convenience. I used to rely on Wilko in the past, and a specialist shop in Cheltenham, Pops Home Brew, but sadly the fellow is calling it a day. A real pity. He's excellent. Thank you all in anticipation.

I doubt any of the major supermarkets now stock home brew stuff the last one i remember was Tesco in 2020 but as you can see from the pictures they soon discounted the kits and i assume gave up shortly after -

Many of the home brew shops offer starter kits and if you spend around £60 postage is free which is a decent saving.

Thank you for confirming, Chippy Tea. I expected as much. I've emailed a local brewing concern who have a shop on site, suggesting they might add kits to their range. I can't be the only fellow around who home brews and that's the kind of thing that will bring people into their shop. I'll let everyone know if there's a yes or no.

I'm not far from you, sad to hear that Pops is calling it a day, he started me off home brewing 13 years ago: my first brew was his made-up kit Golden Citrus Blast. With Wilko going too, there is nothing locally.

The Malt Miller is down at Swindon is you don't mind a bit of a drive. Other than that, it's mail order, which is what I do these days - plenty of good companies out there using couriers that give you a timeslot rather than needing to wait in all day.

It is with great reluctance the fellow at Pops is closing. I do have hope of somewhere in Gloucester that might stock kits. I won't say where it is just yet, lest I get anyone's hopes up, most of all mine!

They now only stock
Lager, stout and American IPA kits as well as wine kits

As said they sell a few Beer, wine and ciders kits they also sell fermenters and a few other bits and pieces they have never tried to rival Wilko they just stick to what sells well, on the plus side the kits are rumoured to be made by Muntons and are top quality they are also cheap so even if you have to order online when they are sold out (as they often are when we visit) postage is only £3.99 (IIRC) so still chap even if you have to pay delivery.

I recently started brewing the ipa from the range, and it seems pretty good. Certainly better than what I had purchased from wilko 10-15 years ago. They have most brewing equipment there to get you started. And some of the range stores do click and collect which helps too.

This link should show them all some are in store only. You need to visit regularly they seem to go in and out of stock every other day.

I was in the one in Holbeach last summer and they had plenty of kits.
I thought they were few and far between but I’ve just checked and they have 76 stores in the UK !
