    What are you drinking 2024.

First sample of my golden ale. Not quite clear yet but peachy citrusy flavours aplenty. This was supposed to be for the euros but can’t see it lasting that long…

    Lid on or off?

@Sadfield, that makes for an interesting read, thanks. Looks like for the sort of flavour I'm after, a lower hopstand temp between 70 and 75 might be the way to go. Like many, I've always gone for the 80deg mark Funny because I had a bit of a nightmare with hopstand temp on an early brew and...

    Lid on or off?

This was my thinking. Lid with either a chimney or some form of condenser. Cheers 👍👍

    Lid on or off?

Been considering how to get the best out of hopstand additions lately. I brew on a Klarstein Mundschenk and tend to add HS additions with the lid off as the immersion chiller is sat in the wort. However, seems now I think about it that I could be losing a fair amount of hop aroma, and it would...

    What are you drinking 2024.

Nearing the end of my keg of Low ABV pale. 0.7% and surprisingly this has got better the longer I’ve left it. Lovely easy drinker.

    May 24- American Pale Ales

@pilgrimhudd Would you take an American Amber? It was supposed to be a red, but let’s say we’ve missed the colour slightly! A bit out of the APA spectrum though…

    What did you brew today?

Checked on progress last night and we're down to FG, bang on 1.011, no doubt helped by the warmer temps. Sample wasn't quite as hoppy as I'd like, but certainly no off flavours which is a relief. Thinking back, I think I had the lid off during the hop-stand as the immersion chiller was sat in...

    What did you brew today?

I’d love to but I’m being regularly reminded by the better half we don’t have room. I disagree, but feel a leg fridge might be the priority first…

    British Hops

Sounds good enough to me. I'll stick some in with this batch. Between the hopstand and dry hop it's had a fair whack of late addition hops, so any preventative measure can be no bad things...

    What did you brew today?

Checked this yesterday and CML FIVE taken off well with a lovely thick krausen. Quite alarmed to see the sticky thermometer on the side of the bin reading 24-26 deg. FV is in an eave space which usually holds at around 18-20. Hadn't registered we'd actually had some warm weather recently...

    What did you brew today?

Honestly, no idea! I haven't been at this all that long (10-15 brews maybe?). I use a Klarstein Mundschenk bought on here from @Jiffy176. He put a good false bottom plate in which catches most of the hop debris. Protofloc in at 10 minutes from the end. Most brews involve a hopstand, after which...

    British Hops

Cheers @Hazelwood Brewery Just had a look, seems I’m on a similar sort of track. Mine is Golden Promise + Wheat Malt and Carapils. Swap Ernest for harlequin and I’ve also got some harlequin in the late boil addition. I’ll also use CML FIVE as it’ll be a little happier at my cupboard temp...

    British Hops

Hi all, I'm trying to do my next few brews making use of British hops. This weekend will be a golden ale for (hopefully!) some warmer weather round the corner. I've got 70g each of Harlequin, Jester and Olicana, which I think should work nicely together. Anyone any experience with these three...

    Adding Steeped Grains during fermentation

Of course. I’m straight down the tried and tested route of over complicating things. I have lactose in as I used some in the low ABV beer I made a while back. This is a small trial batch anyway, so I may bottle half as is and dose the rest with a bit of lactose to evaluate any difference…...
